Is attendance at lectures mandatory?
Attendance is mandatory. In order to be admitted to the exam, absences of up to 35% are allowed for each teaching module.
For example, for the integrated course in “Biology and Biochemistry” – which consists of 2 modules – students must attend at least 65% of each module, i.e., 65% of Biology and 65% of Biochemistry.
Any type of absence will count toward the 35% allowed by the regulations.
If a student reaches at least 65% attendance in a single module, no justification is required.
Any justifications for modules where the required attendance has already been met will be ignored.
Are there justifications that allow students to exceed 35% absences?
As stated in the regulations, the following are valid justifications that can allow students to exceed 35% absences:
- Participation in sessions of institutional bodies
- Tutoring activities
- 150-hour part-time work program
- Participation in educational trips organized by the Course
- Participation in Erasmus programs for study, only for modules that cannot be attended due to their absence in the host university’s curriculum or due to scheduling overlappings
- Participation in international exchange programs outside Erasmus (only for degree programs in Health Professions)
- Activities involving official convocations by the Faculty
- Official convocations for civic duties by public authorities
- Being a caregiver providing daily certified support
- Hospitalizations
Other absences due to illness are included in the 35%.
How are justifications verified?
All justifications listed above will be verified automatically at the end of each semester, before the exam session.
If the justifications are approved, the corresponding attendance will be uploaded to your academic record.
The justification will not be visible in the myUnivpmAgenda app.
How do I submit a justification?
To submit a justification, at the end of the course send an email to:
servizio.didattica.medicina@univpm.it
including:
- The list of justifications
- The corresponding classes for which you’re requesting justification
Example:
11/11/2024 - Participation in Faculty Council – absent from Anatomy class
Email subject: “JUSTIFICATION FOR CLASS ABSENCE”
How do I know if my justification has been accepted?
If attendance for the integrated course appears in your academic record, you are allowed to take the exam.
If your justification is not accepted, you will receive a notification from the office.
How is attendance counted for e-learning?
For courses delivered in e-learning mode, asynchronous online hours are counted toward the mandatory attendance requirement.
These hours are considered equivalent to in-person attendance.
I enrolled after the start of classes. How is my attendance calculated?
For late enrollees, attendance is automatically counted from the date of actual enrollment.
Absences before enrollment are automatically justified, but will not appear in the myUnivpmAgenda app.
Attendance will be uploaded to your academic record at the end of each semester, before the exam session.
What happens if I don’t meet the attendance requirement for an integrated course?
If you fail to meet the attendance requirement for the entire integrated course, you will be enrolled in the next academic year (without needing to enroll as a repeating student), with a pending attendance requirement.
You will need to retake the course the following year in order to take the exam.
If you meet the attendance requirement for some modules but not all, the valid attendance for the passed modules will carry over to the next year.
What if I was present in class but my attendance was not recorded?
If your attendance was not recorded, only the Professor can manually add you, since the attendance register is a public document.
Therefore, any requests sent to administrative offices will be ignored.
What is the attendance requirement for practical/professional activities?
The attendance requirement for professional training activities is 100%.
Any absences must be justified and made up as stated in the regulations of each degree program.
